A hidden gem, we love this place, probably one of the best in the area. This is a medium-upper scale restaurant, so expect good quality not quantity.

Went on a Saturday night. Service was not attentive. Serving size just ok but mostly vegtables and starches. Meat/fish portion of meal extremely small considering the price. Onion soup mostly bread with overcooked cheeze that was chewey. Cant believe all the great reviews. People must love throwing away their money. Better off at Cinelli's where you get a real meal at a good price. Will not go back

This is a very difficult review to write, because I have loved this place since it opened, having lived on LI for over 20 years. The food is great and the ambiance is lovely.
However, I had a bad experience when I went on Wednesday, December 17, 2014. My friend and I had a reservation for 5:00 p.m. and she was taking me out for my birthday. We sat down and had a lot to talk about, since we hadn't seen each other for awhile. The waiter gave us our menus. We continued talking. He came by and asked if we were ready to order. The menus had obviously not been touched. We ordered wine and continued chatting, not ready to look at the menus quite yet. The waiter came over 2 more times in the next 10 minutes. Finally a manager came over and said, "I will try to say this as politely as possible. We have reservations after yours and we would appreciate it if you ate and left shortly." I was stunned. First of all, if the West End Cafe wants to become a fast food place, they should have told us when we arrived. And, after ordering three cocktails, appetizers and two entrees, we were paying an extraordinary amount and should not have felt like we were being rushed out. It was a disappointing experience, at a restaurant that was one of my favorites on LI, one that I used to think went above and beyond.
I have heard about their other restaurant, the Market Bistro in Jericho and was wondering if we should try that out. Or give West End Cafe another chance. It costs too much money these days, to go out for dinner. Life is too short to spend that kind of money on a mediocre experience.
