When I first went to Dr Berkowitz for my Diabetes, he became my primary physician, I never had a Doctor of my own before then. He did a great job of getting my diabetes under control and I was feeling great...
In 2005 I lost my Job, and was going through a set back with my type 2 Diabetes. (I had gained a good amount of weight back but was trying correct that)
My right foot achilles tendon snapped. I went to an orthopedic doctor to see about it, and he told me that it should be surgicly repaired within the week. In order to do that my orthopedic doctor said I needed to get a physical from Dr. Berkowitz. I tried to make an emergency appointment with him but was told that he was booked for the week and was going to be away the next week thereafter.
I relayed this to my Ortho doctor, and he said that he'd call Dr Berkowitz himself. The next thing I know, the Orthopedist told me another local Doctor would do the physical and sign off on it. So I made an appointment with him and had the surgery to repair my tendon.
When next I attempted to make a regular appointment with Dr Berkowitz, he refused to see or talk to me. To this day I don't know what I did or why Dr Berkowitz dropped me like a hot potato. Since then I've been floundering with my diabetes. It took a lot to open up to Dr Bekowitz in the first place that I had problems, and I've yet to connect to another doctor to replace him.
I just wish I knew what I did. I really liked him.

Update 5/4/2010: well I waited too long to get another Doctor and as a result have had a minor stroke ( can a stroke be minor?) I am now back on the staright and narrow and trying to get my diabetetes under control again. It was, in part, due to my bad experience with Dr. B... but I was stupid too and should have found a new doctor much sooner. If you are sick do not wait as long as I did to get another doctor, if yours drops you.
