The old 1950s building just got razed, and they're building a new prototypical Walgreens complete with drive-thru along Amherst from the corner parking area to the Amherst two-way entrance/exit. The blighted parking lot out back which used to be a mecca for local white teens with driver's licenses and alcohol after sundown is gone. The new building will feature parking on Inman Ave with a few places on Amherst where Giordano's Catering once stood, making for easy surveillance by Woodbridge cops without leaving Inman Ave. The 24 hour Dunkin Donuts will be coming back, allegedly with an entrance opposite a classy family bakery (since the '60s) named Vaccaros. There is no longer an area for bold skateboarders. The iron loading ramp (skateboard jump) was scrapped and is gone. The rats and open dumpsters are also gone. The Woodbridge Mayor has expressed a keen interest in the revitalization program going on there currently (early 2008). Though the Walgreens 24 hour service is gone for NOW, they have an 8AM to 10PM service open right next to Colonia Natural Pharmacy for those who prefer a major chain to personalized service, and the Country Cow home-made ice cream and Italian ice parlor is open evenings in any case. The early morning and lunch crowd can still do Sylvio's for breakfast sandwiches, lunch deli, and coffee. Reconstruction is slated for completion by late September, 2008.
