Here's what happened -
I brought my car to get checked out, on 1/7/16, after hearing a thumping noise. After inspecting the car, the mechanic called and told me the two front wheel bearings needed to be replaced and that I also had a cracked transmission mount. He told me it was safe to drive, but that I'd hear the thumping noise until I got the bearings fixed. He didn't charge me and my car was there from about 9am - 5pm. I did notice, as soon as I drove away, that the sound was progressively worse, but because he told me it was safe to drive, I did and planned on having it repaired the following week. Two days later, while driving, my front, drivers side wheel flew off, my car came crashing down and I skid down the street until I could stop. Some guys stopped, looked at the car and asked if I recently had work done on the car because there were no lug nuts on that wheel.
Today, I went to the shop to tell the guy what happened and he said he never took the wheel off. Unfortunately, I have no proof that he did, but I find it extremely hard to believe this would have happened any other way. In addition, after having my car towed to the dealership, I had $1200 worth of work needed and only one of my wheel bearings needed to be replaced and the transmission mount is fine.
