Reviews to Valley National Bank
I came here to change my loan account and auto pay. The teller and manager did not know how to do anything and proceeded to tell me to use an online account to do auto pay. Excuse Ms. I don't want to use an online account to setup auto pay. I proceeded to ask for the bankers name, but no one wanted to tell me. Eventually I called my town branch and they helped me through the phone as I used the facilities equipment to DO EVERYTHING MYSELF. Good bye Valley National Bank, I will be taking everything to Bank of America.

I first opened a "Kids Savings Account" as a child (around 10 years ago) and now have a "Checking Account". In all my time as a VNB customer I've never once enjoyed visiting the Fair Lawn branch - I've always felt lied to, disrespected, and never taken seriously. As with most people I've remained at the same bank because of the down-right hassle to close an account a re-open somewhere else-wear.
Between the "Branch Manager" and the "Head Teller" this branch is crumbling. On several occasions I've had to ask the Head Teller to get the Manager due to their failure to recognize the validity of the transactions presented. The final straw however, was when the Branch Manager refused to assist me with a simple overcharge fee. In fact; I was told several times to call PayPal about the overcharge fees I received from the bank.. (yes, you read that correctly). The manager was down right offensive; raising his voice, talking over me, trying to intimidate me into paying the banks fees, and finally hanging up on me without resolving the issue at hand. Being a previous bank employee myself, I know a little about their operation.
Banks have an account strictly for refunding overcharges that has x amount of money (refilled each quarter). The bank employee calculates the amount left the overcharge account + the time until the end of the quarter + and the amount of money that has previously been redacted from your file. The manager completely denied any of this being true but would not explain the current operation.
After this didn't work the manager tried intimidation by threatening to put me in "ChexSystems" basically a way for other banks to know if you have outstanding dept with another bank. After hearing that this didn't scare me the manager offered wave one out of the two charges made (which where both the same transaction - which I also returned without ever using).
When I still wasn't interested the manager suddenly got a very nasty tone; saying something along the lines of, "Ya'know what, I'm trying to be really nice here because I've known you and your mother for so long..." I replied by saying, "friendship is friendship and business is business." That is when the manager got loud and hung up.
From here I called the 800 number and spoke to someone who explained everything I said was correct and that he would submit a form to have my charges reviewed at the back office.
I don't know why this was so difficult for someone at the Fair Lawn branch to understand.. After this is situation is resolved - I will definitely be closing my account with Valley National Bank.
Not to mention the Fair Lawn branch is actually open on Sundays until 2; not "closed" as they have it listed online.
