This morning I stopped by at my local post office on York Avenue and east 79 street.
I have been using the service of this particular office for the least 6 years and have never experienced any problems except today – when a woman by the name of Siley was “taken care of” me. When I walked over to her window I immediately felt as though I were an annoyance. She didn’t greet me; she didn’t even look at me, but kept on acting as if she was doing a favor for me. There were no words: “please” or “thank you” used. I had two packages to be mailed – one was an international package going to Russia. I have elderly parents living in Russia and therefore send mail to Russia on a regular basis. Normally I would place the name of the country right in the center of the address label so it’s visual to the post office employees. I was told by Siley that the country name should be written on the very bottom of the address label instead. I didn’t mind it, but I did mention that it was strange because I was specifically “educated” by another post office employee in the past to have the country name in the middle of the label so it’s visual. At this point she said that: “it makes no sense and she has no patience to dealing with this” . I replied and said that I didn’t appreciate her tone at which point she said that I should go to a different window because she refused to help me. I asked her if a manager was available and she told me that I should walk over to a different location on Lexington avenue as there was no available manager for me to speak to. I had wait for another employee to assist me.
I personally feel she has no place interacting with the public when she lacks the most basic sense of customer care.
