Nice office, great location. So I went to this doctor because my skin was breaking out in some red spots. The doc looked at them and said in order to be sure what we're dealing with he would take a sample and send it to the lab to be tested. He proceed to do the biopsy and take the sample. When I was about to leave and make my co-pay of $25, the doctor's wife Karen Trager , who works in the office, told me my insurance (Blue Cross Blue Shield said my co-pay was $300. I was stunned but it seemed like she was really on the phone with the insurance, so I wrote the check and paid the $300.
Dr Trager told me I would receive a phone call in one week when the lab results came in. I waited the week all the while battling my skin condition, but got no phone call. I then called their office and explained to the lady why I was calling, she was totally ignorant about the whole thing and did not know if my labs had come back or not. (How can you possibly work in this office and at the front desk and not know if you received results from the lab). Right then I got the feeling that something wasn't right here. First the $300 co-pay and now my labs that no-one knew anything about. I asked her how come she worked there and not know, then who would know. She said she would have the doctor call me.
The doctor called me a little later and said that the labs were in and it's nothing serious, just excema and he would call my local Rite Aid and prescribe a cream for me. I then thought to myself, how could an experienced dermatologist not know that my skin condition was excema when he first saw it? (strange).
I decided to call Empire blue and ask some questions. I was told by the representative that Dr Trager's bill was $400 and they paid it, and my co-pay should have been about $7. Also, they showed no record of any claim of any sample going to the lab to be paid.. They were going to give this doctor a call and look into the matter of him charging my insurance and then charging me also., and I would most likely be due for a refund. I am so losing faith in human beings.
