I'm very fortunate to have chosen The Yoga Room in Long Island City to have to my first experience with Yoga.
The online site and class schedule was easy to use and to book my first class - an Open and Restorative Yoga class being taught by Lindsay. I was very nervous about my first class and upon arriving at the studio, quickly made that clear. Lindsay quickly assured me that although her class was not steered towards beginners - I could go at my own pace and do what made me comfortable and at ease.
Lindsay then showed me around the studio - where to cubby my sneakers, the restrooms, lockers, different yoga rooms, etc. The studio is clean, open, inviting, and comforting. The class itself was extremely educational, comforting, and very relaxing. The poses were a welcome workout and stretched out the areas I was hoping to get to by adopting yoga. Lindsay helped me out with a couple of poses and was very reassuring.
I've already scheduled my 2nd and 3rd yoga classes! Definitely recommend!

I discovered TYR in Astoria shortly after it first opened in 2003. My yoga practice has been inconsistent at times, but taking a class at TYR, whether it be yoga or Pilates or a special workshop, is always a great experience. I drive 20 minutes to both locations (LIC and Astoria) from my home in Middle Village to take classes. Between the two locations, I can always find a great class on the varied schedule which is appropriate for me.

A relaxing oasis for me. I tested the waters with 3 weeks of unlimited classes for $39 and took 3 or 4 classes each week with different instructors to see if I would like anything. Turns out I loved them all. Some instructors will suit your needs better than some, but all are very professional and will even remember your name and follow your progress. Many classes are challenging, yet beginner-friendly, and there are a variety of yoga practices, some Pilates, barre, etc. Most importantly for me, this is a place that is welcoming and clean enough to make me feel I've escaped the inhospitable and cave-like subways and terrain of the city. I simply leave my mat for storage with one of their smiling staff members, and take a shower in their eucalyptus scented bathroom after an hour long class- and poof! I just got my healthy on and feel all the better for it.

The place itself was beautiful and welcoming and the staff were friendly and helpful to newcomers. The schedule also looks like there are many great options and times available. I tried the hot yoga class at 7:15 on Thursday evening and it was amazing. The instructor was great as well as the music she played. I would definitely go again and would have gotten a membership if I wasn't in the middle of figuring out where I was going to move next location wise. Keep up the good work!
