"The Secret Staircase" is the locally accepted nickname for a concrete walking path and stairway connecting Tompkins Circle and Victory Boulevard. The consensus around town is that the staircase is equal parts scenic and scary. It's existence is a blessing for Tompkins Circle and other area residents commuting on foot to local shops and especially to the Staten Island Ferry. However, The isolated corridor is not without it's problems. Local news has reported about a myriad of illicit activity that occurs within the space. I use this pathway often as a shortcut to visit friends up on Tompkins, but even as an adult male, I always proceed with caution. Use and enjoy at your own risk.
