I chose this restaurant based on other reviews and the fact that it was very close to the Sleep No More interactive play. The atmosphere is really cool. Kind of feels like an old timey carriage house. The service was really good. We mentioned to the waiter that we were a little short on time and he really took care of us quickly. I had the Steak Tartare and the sauteed Skate. The waiter asked if we had any food allergies. I am gluten free, so it was really great that he asked. Most places dont even bother. The food was really tasty. There were a bunch of different items on the menu that I wanted to try. Hopefully I will get a chance to go back and enjoy them.
Definitely hit this place up if you are in the area.
A+++++++++++ Would eat again!

Came here for an early dinner. The restaurant was empty when we came in, but boy did it fill up fast! And for good reason! The food was amazing and so were the servers. I strongly recommend everything I tasted - tempura green beans, roasted brussel sprouts with anchovy dressing, and duck breast with farro side. Wow! Even the freshly made ginger root tea was out of this world. I had a detailed discussion with the staff on how they make it so I can try to replicate it at home.

This Chelsea spot gets going early in the evening with a boisterous artsy cocktail crowd from the neighborhood and continues through the night with diners who come from afar. All are attracted by the warm welcome, the stylish, narrow crimson room lit by oversize Moroccan lanterns, the lack of any bogus attitude and the bold-flavored and reasonably priced Mediterranean-American cuisine. You might begin with a warm grilled endive salad with blue cheese and balsamic vinegar, or roasted Manila clams with red pepper, smoked ham and sherry. Mains run the gamut from mustard-crusted trout, to sliced baby lamb with grilled red onions and sour cherries. And Red Cat caters to solo diners at the long and lively stone-topped bar.
