Never heard of such law that you can't return boots. If this is a store policy, then tell me that. Boots left the store, never touched pavement, absolutely not a bit of dirt or dust on them. Called Parks and Meyer uniforms, no such LAW just store policy. That was my first time buying there. NO THANKS I'LL SHOP AT PARKS.

I don't know where some of these 1 star reviews are coming from. I have been a customer for a couple of years now and I have received nothing great service from everyone. John, the young man behind the counter has always gone out of his way to help me with whatever assistance that I may need at the time. We need to support our local Buisnesses especially family owned buisnessess that have been part of the community for as long as the police shop has. I highly recommend this store to anyone on or off the force.

To the customer below. We regret that your experience was not what we strive to achieve. We are a family owned and operated store that has been serving law enforcement agencies for over 50 years. We are legally restricted in not allowing returns of any mace or personal protection product, that must be done through the manufacture. We also have several no return or refund signs posted around our store. We also tell every customer this before we complete any sales transaction so that this issue can be avoided. The owner (my father) paid you from his own pocket as we cannot return personal protection items. We now have them for our personal use. On canisters the manufactured date with month and year are stamped on the bottom. SAVE THIS DATE so you can reorder before the expiration date. The brand name we carry for personal use is called "Back Off" and it is good for 4 years from the manufacture date. There is also no state, county or city ordinance that limits purchases of mace other than the purchaser must be over 18 and have no felonies. There is however a restriction that concerns the sale of mace to two items per single transaction in PHARMACIES only. This only applies to one single transaction in a pharmacy and does not limit the customer from having more than one transaction per day. There is no paperwork required in any stores unless it is a firearms retailer, this is standard at retailers with authorization to sell firearms. In that setting all sales require paperwork to be filled out and signed with government issue ID. The front door to our store notifies all customers that they must be 18 or older and be ready to show a law enforcement ID. As most, if not all items in our store can only be purchased by showing your law enforcement ID (this includes showing an actual law enforcement ID. Not flashing some sort of bus operators badge in our face like you did before scurrying out of our store) mace is one of very, very, few items in which a law enforcement ID is not required.
"New York State Penal Law Exemption of Weapons Law §265.
Sale of "self-defense spray device" Section §265.20
14. Possession in accordance with the provisions of this paragraph of a self-defense spray device as defined herein for the protection of a person or property and use of such self-defense spray device under circumstances which would justify the use of physical force pursuant to article thirty-five of this chapter.
(a) As used in this section "self-defense spray device" shall mean a pocket sized spray device which contains and releases a chemical or organic substance which is intended to produce temporary physical discomfort or disability through being vaporized or otherwise dispensed in the air or any like device containing pepper or similar disabling agent.
(b) The exemption under this paragraph shall not apply to a person who:
(i) is less than eighteen years of age; or
(ii) has been previously convicted in this state of a felony or any assault; or
(iii) has been convicted of a crime outside the state of New York which if committed in New York would constitute a felony or any assault crime."
While we regret that you were not satisfied with the product, our policy is clear. Personally disagreeing with store policy, ignoring that it is unlawful for our store to accept returns of mace and personal protection items does not give you a valid reason to act in the manner that was displayed in our store.
If you would like to bring laws into this discussion then I'm sure you are aware that threatening, yelling and generally making a scene in someone else's business is always frowned upon by law enforcement officers.
We regret you are unhappy, but please feel free to take your business (or lack there of) to a different store. One that would not mind breaking the law just for you to have a few bucks returned to you.
Thanks again!

This guys sold my wife and daughter expired pepper spray. Didn't ask them to fill out the correct paper work and didn't give them a receipt. The salesperson told my wife that she can buy as manny pieces as she wanted. Their is a maximum of purchase of 2 units per person per every 2 years in NYC. I send my wife to get her 3 units replaced with ones that weren't expired and the person in charge questioned where they had bought it despite the fact it was purchased about an hour earlier. Refused to replace units and refused to give money back. I had to go in an argue with him to get the money back. The guy finally game me the money back, which he took lout of his wallet, and told me in a threatening way to get out of his store and not to come back. This guy is selling pepper spray in an irresponsible manner and has a horrible return policy. Play at your own risk here.

I had a very bad experience in The New York Police Shop. I changed my two hash marks to three hash marks. It cost me $78. for nine items. When I went back to retrieve my item is when the so called manager went off. I simply asked for a bag, He then accused me of being nasty, told me I was just a correction officer, and that I should get out his store. Meanwhile, he was wearing a NYC Boldest t-shirt. I couldn't believe what this man was saying to me and for no reason, it was like he had a tantrum brought on by a Bipolar disorder. He started repeatedly kicking a brown bag and saying most people don't ask for bags. I was shocked and appalled. I will never patronize this business again.
