They have good food and nice outdoor dining. But they frequently overbook and then device becomes a disaster. Great owner. just needs some more attention on the service and overbooking

I gave it six attempts to see if things would improve, but Friday night was the limit. The food is okay, but over priced for what it is, but it is the terrible service and ear-drum bursting volume of the live music that makes a meal at The Metropolitan Bistro more of an ordeal to quickly get through than anything approaching a pleasant environment to enjoy a (quite expensive) meal. The owner/manager clearly wants to see himself as something of a "music guru", and weekends (which is when most of us like to go out an enjoy a meal) are given over to music so loud that I honestly could not hear my dining companions speak, the four of left eating in silence as we listened to music so loud and unpleasant that we actually laughed at the ridiculousness of it all. I have nothing against live music in a restaurant if it is low-key, quiet, and enhances both conversation and the food. But endless psychedelic guitar riffs a la Gerry Garcia that "go to eleven" played at top volume purely for the benefit of the bands' friends is actually RUDE, in my opinion.
But it was my own stupid fault for returning six times; I suppose I always thought that at some point, the owner might actually take his diners into consideration. Clearly, he prefers to have some sort of music venue to showcase elderly amateur musicians and local 'guitar heroes' (and their entourages) than allowing for his otherwise very pleasant space to be a nice environment for people to enjoy the tasty (if overpriced) food.
One other thing; if you're into hearing loud live music, be prepared to stand at the overcrowded bar; if you sit at a table, you have to order a full meal. And this again adds to the Metropolitan's identity crisis; at a music venue, you can sit at a table and just dink. At Metropolitan, you have to order a meal if you want to sit down....and if you sit down, you can't ENJOY you meal (especially if you want some conversation) as the music is so loud.
(*Also, our expensive cheesburgers came with NOTHING on them other than the meat and cheese. No mayo. No tomatoes. No lettuce. No pickle. Nothing. When I told the waitress, she said that it was our fault because "we hadn't said that we didn't want them plain". Who pays fifteen bucks for a hamburger and is expected to ASK for lettuce as a 'special extra'.
Ridiculous place. NEVER AGAIN.

Fun and funky interior space with beautiful outdoor seating. The host was warm and friendly. I wish the food was as tasty as it sounded on the menu - maybe that would have justified the hefty check.
