The waiter clearly wanted to chase us out. Poor service. The place was empty yet they still acted like they didnt want us. The brought the check before we even finished dinner. They didnt offer desert or ask if we needed anything else. Rude.

Great service, food and atmosphere! Nice wait staff & loved the bacon cheeseburger. They even put a rush on our food for us so we could make a meeting. A little expensive but enjoyed the experience. Attractive wait staff

This place has been around for a while, so I figured it was time to try it. Places that stand the test of time are rare in NYC, especially diners.

I was there with 5 friends and they were able to seat us quickly and, more importantly, comfortably. Some of us are big guys (I'm especially so) and this was a plus.

The place looks like a retro diner, but the food is a bit elevated from typical diner fare. I had the boneless chicken, which is served with a nicely seasoned spinach, mashed potatoes, and gravy. It was spicier than I thought it would be, but I'm a fan of spicy so I was very pleased with the dish. Others at the table were also. The only complaints were that they served shoestring French fries and an issue we had with the cream.

A friend and I ordered coffee and the cream that we got had lots of milk solids in it. Apparently this happens to cream, but doesn't mean it's gone bad (unless it also smells funny, which it didn't ). Our server indulged us replacing cream and coffee until we finally settled on having milk with our coffee. He was nice about it, though I'm sure he thought we were being high maintenance. His responses weren't horrible, but lacked a little polish.

So why only three stars? The place has no shades for the Windows so we were bathed in bright light as the sun went down, and there wasn't much that could be done. I would have suggested extending the awning outside to provide some shade, but I was already feeling bad about the whole cream thing. I didn't want to be "that guy". But also they seemed to be understaffed, which caused them to miss out on some of the details. The table was not as clean as it should have been. We had no sugar at the table. It took a while to flag someone down about the sugar/cream thing as well as to pay the bill. And the menus looked like they had seen better days. So it was good, not great. It's worth noting that these are all fixable things, and your results may vary.

I got poached eggs on a biscuit with taylor ham and hollandaise sauce, and I am still thinking about it days later. I would like to go back to the Diner and get it again! It was about $13 for that and some home fries, and for a meal in new york with table service, that's a very good price.

The restaurant needs updating and the music inside could be changed, but the hostess was friendly. It's a great budget-friendly option!
