amazing place to go if you are an architecture amateur. this is one of the churches that have impressed me the most. the mix of different architectural styles is what makes this building so unique in my opinion. I will certainly go back next time I'm in NYC.

I grew up in NYC, & made my 1st pilgrimage here when confirmed at age 13. I was blown away by its immensity, but painfully aware that the slums of Harlem surround it.

I'm an organist whose soul was stirred, and lifted to new heights by the magnificent organ, with its 'state trumpet en chamade'!

I am also a student of architecture; i remain appalled that such an iconic monument has 2 distinctly different styles: Roman, & Gothic. How could anyone in his right mind have let that happen?

Halfway thru construction the builder was replaced. Rather than find one willing to continue in the style w/ which *half* the cathedral had already been built... they hired one who refused to do so!

It could become far worse if the crystal tower is ever given the go-ahead. In a room within the cathedral is a model of the proposed structure. When apart from the Cathedral Church it is grand, but atop... it is an abomination! Perhaps they have already dropped those plans, but when i was last there the tower was still on their 'to-do' list.
