Tai Chi School of Eternal Energy

I always wanted to take Tai Chi even more so than Kenpo and Ta Kwon Do that I took over several years. After getting really sick October of 2010, I realized I have to start working from the internal to the external. Studying Tai Chi and Chi Kung under Larry really helped me improve my breathing as well as balance and maintaining focus. Larry's classes helps me observe my everyday movements and options of different movements to improve myself. Realizing the correct way to move in itself will improve and develop a better foundation to living a longer, healthier life.....

I started working with Larry because I was in constant pain from an arthritic hip and urged by orthopedists to get a hip replacement. Over five years later, I am pain-free and I no longer limp, and I attribute a large part of my recovery to Larry's weekly Tai Chi and Feldenkrais classes. The movements, as I have come to understand them, help the body — and also the mind and spirit — to get healthier and stronger. The work we do each week is NOT of the no-pain-no-gain variety; it is gentle but deep, with multiple levels of benefit. The reason I keep these classes a constant in my life is that they make me feel — how better to say it? — good.

This summer I'll begin my 4th year with Larry. The first few classes had me wondering "what am I doing here?" Students who had studied with him for many years just smiled in a "you'll see" kind of way, and I stayed. Before long I began to experienced relief from the asthmatic issues that brought me to his class and with time lower back pain left me. I trusted what he was teaching and how he taught, finding his style to be humble and compassionate. This class has been a real gift in my life.

Unfortunately, his classes were amongst the most boring I have ever experienced with much of the classes devoted to lying on the floor and lifting up each hip. Just doing that and other tiresome, useless exercises. However, the most disturbing part is he entices you to sign a 3 month contract immediately and before you can gain an adequate feel for the lack of effectivenes, he locks you in. Then, if you claim you are dissatisfied and drop out, he feels entitled to keep charging you for the entire 3 months (and he even charged my colleague for a month or 2 after that) even though you are no longer physically present at the studio and expressed dissatisfaction on multiple occasions. The bad classes and poor teaching skills are one thing, but the unprofessionalism and lack of integrity is something that brings it to a whole new level and causes you to lose faith in humanity...and have a high level of skepticism about people who tout themselves as "masters". We can't even drive by that place without feeling manipulated and conned. Stay away from this guy as there are true honest masters out there who are in it for the right reasons.
