Your neighborhood hardware store is a great alternative to Home Depot and other giant chains that want to kill small businesses. My neighborhood hardware store would be this one. Snow shovels and appliances in the front, random hardware stuff in the back, different types of locks to choose from. The owners here can speak English, Mandarin and Cantonese, friendly and knowledgeable.
I came here to make key duplicates (first time too!) I finally saw how the process worked. Pretty awesome! They take a blank key that can fit in the key hole and then starts cutting it so that it can turn. They start accepting credit cards at $15.
