Pretty damn good sushi here.
The fish is probably the freshest in the city with many options to choose from. The staff is friendly and food is prepared pretty swiftly. The prices are pretty decent as well. My only negative is the portions are kind of small. That being said, the portion size should not turn you away as the fish is amazing.
Definitely give this place a try if you are on the UWS. Its always packed as well, so I suggest making a reservation.

Who knows, the ambience (and portions) on site may be good, but this place does not care about delivery orders. Long wait and obnoxious on the phone: then insisted on my ordering online. Obnoxious upon delivery. Order not filled correctly (not all items ordered were delivered). Also, delivery portions appeared half-sized of what one would get in the restaurant. Since they 'don't do phone contact' there is little remedy except schlepping one's order back to the restaurant itself. Not worth it. Forget this place. There are better alternatives on the UWS.

Outstanding. Sushi is fresh, expertly prepared, and unbelievably tasty. Lunch offers terrific deals, even on the weekends. It's indeed popular; be prepared to wait. Service is solicitous.

When it come to sushi I am fussy and trust only a few in the city. From previous experiences, I've also noted before I'm not a keen fan of Chinese a la Sushi places in the city. Chinese con Mexican etc. We were in the neighborhood before a show and wanted a lighter pre-show dinner. Yaska was the only game in the area and begrudgingly decided to try it.
The interior was comfortable and service was friendly and our server was quick to get our order. The restaurant had a good Sunday night population seemingly enjoying their Japanese dinner.
Ordered the sushi deluxe platter with the tempura appetizer. The tempura was light, crispy and not oily at all. Served with three type of salt and soy sauce dipping sauce. The sushi platter was equally satisfying. The rice was balanced and fish fresh.
Yaska might not have made me a complete convert as my Japanese friends will still snub their nose at it. As far as I'm concern it does a good job for the 85% of NYC's sushi eating population.

Excellent quality of fish at very reasonable prices. Sushi deluxe for $26 and a full omakase for $45 are absolute deals in this city and you can do much worse for much more money. Is it as good as Tanoshi or Ushiwakamaru? No, but you pay a lot less here and the quality only minimally drops off. The fish is served at the right temperature and tastes wonderful, the rice is good, the ginger is fresh and delicious. Shumai and negimaki appetizers were just okay, but the fish is the star here and is worth maximizing at the expense of any starters. Service is efficient and unobtrusive. Highly recommended for the UWS!
