Visited the new location at 144 E 74th st & Lexington. Terrific lighting, loved the choice of yarns- there was a nice variety. Mid to high prices. The samples were casual and chic, knitable and wearable. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable.
They helped me with color choices for projects. There is a bar with seating at the window to sit and knit. Next time I go I want to sit and knit and people watch.

The knitting business must be better than I thought to allow for such rude and dismissive behavior from those who work there. I have never been spoken to in as rude a manner, nor did I get any follow up help after purchasing several hundred dollars of yarn for a project. Indeed, I was helped by people at another knitting store, despite my not having purchased the materials at the other store.

Having now been to all of the knitting stores in manhattan, I can say definitively that the most disagreeable staff works at string. Perhaps because I was not a regular, other than when I was purchasing the yarn, I could not get the time of day from these people. Do NOT patronize this store unless you want to be ignored and or mistreated.
