I am from out of state so this was my first time seeing Dr Baskin. I go to the dentist routinely every 6 months. My appt was at 10 and I was taken back at 10:15 - after the doctor and front desk woman discussed billing issues for 15 minutes. After my X-rays, I sat in the room for another 15 minutes until a man came into the room. He didn't introduce himself, just briefly said hello and immediately began poking at my teeth. He didn't say a word to me the entire cleaning. Once he was finished, he turned his back to me and began writing as I sat there in silence for 3-4 minutes. Finally, he turns and states that I have "eight cavities." I am shocked because I haven't had a cavity since I was a child and every time I see the dentist they are impressed by my teeth. I ask this man, who I've determined must be the dentist, how that would be possible? He turns to me and says, verbatim: "I am the doctor. You are the patient." Attempting to assert some dominance over the situation versus educating me.
I asked him a couple other questions such as if it were ok to wait on filling the cavities (mainly because I don't trust him at this point and would rather see my dentist from out of state to verify these "findings") and he continued to give me wishy-washy answers back to all of my questions. At this point, even if I have the cavities verified by a trusted dentist, I could never let Dr Baskin be the one who fills them, due to my lack of trust, his lack of bedside manner and the overall lack in patient education.
At the end of the appointment I asked if I could get a new toothbrush- something I have received at literally every dentist appointment I have ever been to- and he reluctantly sighed and gave me a toothbrush and exclaimed "Just because you asked I'll give you one."
All in all it was an incredibly strange experience. I will be seeing my dentist from back home in a few months and I will update this and ensure to let everyone know how many cavities my other dentist says I have- if any. I have high suspicions that Dr Baskin hoped to make more money off of me, and I will gladly update this review if he happened to be correct, and more likely, verify that he was incorrect after my next dental appointment.
