This is one of my favorite Starbucks. Reasons are that it's 25 yards from the subway on Roosevelt Island right next to a nice park. Amazing views of the upper-east side. Restaurants and apartment towers surround the park- lots of parents with their small children playing. The cafe itself is fairly small, but has the sitting area in the rear, away from the noisy bustle of the waiting line. And it has a full-size window wall facing the park. The staff is ok- not the friendliest I've seen. But it's very busy at the front counter, and their service area is very tight for them- not the best working conditions. The staff is just fine. WiFi is NOT the Google network- it can be a little slow when it's crowded, but it's reliable.

The wifi doesn't work, so this is not a good spot to study. Usually its really cramped & tough to find a seat, but occasionally you'll get lucky and find one.
Lately I've noticed that employee drama is priority to the staff and customers are secondary. There will be a big line waiting for drinks and only one register open because other employees are ordering Chinese food or talking about a holiday party with friends (who they give free drinks to and let cut the line). Once I even witnessed an employee yell at his manager and refuse to leave early because another employee didn't have to take a break or something like that… all while there was a huge line at the register and this guy was the only person working it.
Granted, this has only been lately (during the holiday season) so I understand that people need extra hours so they can afford gifts. That situation all customers were patient with because its pretty understandable. But the drama about parties and loudly ordering Chinese food with your friends just a foot away from the giant line of customers? Come on.
