This is a beautiful little church, and a great resource on a Sunday evening, they have a Mass starting at 6 PM.
Architecturally, the building is broad and romanesque, with fantastic carved portal. From busy 1st avenue you step though into a real peaceful oasis. The ceilings are painted a soft powder blue, and adorned with golden stars throughout. The columns by the windows caught my eye, as they are in the Corinthian style, with a center piece a little different for each one.
More interestingly, the church is Slovak, with a Priest and congregation to match. A nice look back into the history of the upper east side as a home for Central European immigrants.
Well worth a visit.
