I have lived across from Soundview Park my entire life and not until a few years ago did my mother and I start grilling out there, not because its dangerous but because its so quiet and nobody really pays it any mind, although it is well taken care of. I know this because, conviniently enough, I worked there for the summer, cleaning, painting and whatnot. One day this passed summer, my mother and I decided to investigate and there were a lot of people there playing volleyball, grilling and just having fun. When my mom and I go to cook out there we go more toward the end near story ave because it's closer to where we live.Yes, it is across the street from the projects but as you can see on Google maps, the main portion of the park goes down Lafayette ave. There's an area in the waaaaay back where you can see the river, it's dirty but what water isnt' in the NY area?? And yes, I would n't suggest going back there if your a women by yourself(although I did w/my co-workers) but that goes for ANY park in NYC, even Central Park! My mom walks around the track in the summer mornings and I roller blade.=) It's a nice relaxing place to go and big enough to not be on top of anybody else in the park.
