Unsanitary. The (men's) locker room is simply disgusting. One of the reasons I stopped going here is because if you change from your work clothes, work out for just half an hour and return to shower and change your work cloths will absolutely stink all day due to the serious lack in ventilation and upkeep. Stared at a moldy dripping ceiling in the downstairs coming from the showers over my workout bench for months with nothing more than a drip bucket on the floor to tell you to watch out. Also what's with staff of the opposite sex walking into the locker rooms all day like it's nothing?
Place is a joke.

Despite what others say I really like Soma. Its never too crowded, its clean, machines work, wide range of classes at 9-5er friendly hours, nice locker rooms (with a sauna AND steam room!) And its the only gym in wburg that DOESNT have offensively bright paint everywhere. Oh yea, its totally affordable given the offering.

Clean, not busy, and nice equipment. The staff don't say much, but I don't go there for a social club so I'm not sure why everyone has a problem with them, They just sit there and talk on the phone (I can only guess that the receptionist is talking on the phone with the other receptionist at the bronx location because no one else could possibly have this much time to spend on the phone during the day.) I will say, it does take them a while to fix stuff. There's been no music in the mens change room for about 3 weeks. Just the constant sounds of ipod clicking because it's on some endless dysfunctional loop to try and find the next song. The steam room works well, but the walls on the outside seem to be eroding with no repair in the near future. The fan in the locker area just started squeaking, so we'll see how long that takes to fix. They do keep the windows open sometimes in the summer but I like that. It's not by any means unbearably hot. Their shower don't smell great, and some of the members aren't very respectful leaving towels around on the floor in the showers for no reason, but the change room facilities are pretty clean all around. I would like to see more water sources. There's only one water fountain in the whole club and they charge for bottled water, so I'm forced to remember to bring $2 for water(because you can't charge it to your membership) or fill my water up in the change room sink which we can all agree is kind of gross no matter how clean it is. Anyways, all around good gym, and I would suggest it to any local Williamsburg hipsters that need to shed some weight and get back into those 1970 kiss jeans.
