Dr. Sobel is a very mild, pleasant and calm medical professional. He will answer questions and explain things, which I appreciate. His staff, however, are often rude; they make comments aloud about the patients sitting in the waiting area, within their earshot. They are often impatient and stand-offish on the phone. The optician is no different. If I had not been recommended to this office by my neurologist, I would probably not return here, sadly. One staff member, the gentleman who answers the phones, is slightly more pleasant, but it must be a tough working environment, with all of those attitudes being thrown around.

Dr. Sobel has been my primary ophthalmologist since 1988. His professionalism and expert care are the best. Highly recommended!

Having gone to Dr. Sobel for 10+ years, I can confidently say that I agree with the other complaints here: extremely long waits, incompetent AND rude receptionists. Since he bills himself as an Eye "Doctor" Specialist, he charges you (the more expensive) $30 healthcare co-pay for a specialist (not the $10 VSP co-pay). Trust me you can find much better, friendly, professional eye care in NYC.
