Sky City Apartments swopped us at zero notice to a different flat. We had booked 2 months previously for 225 Grand Street. I arrived at their office at 265 Grand Street with my two elderly, tired (both over 80 years old) parents at 3 pm on a cold wet afternoon after 12 hours of travel. We were given a number of excuses that the original apartment was not available: initially that there was no water in the property, then that there was no hot water. However, when I subsequently asked the receptionist in 225 Grand Street if she was aware of any problems in the block she was not.
We were told that we were being given an apartment of equal or better standard. But they would not let me see the original apartment. With two tired elderly parents ( both over 80 years old) at zero notice I was not in a situation were I could turn down this "replacement" and set off trying to find another apartment. We taken around to 30 Regent Street and left in the lobby by Brian from Sky City.
The apartment had human hair in the beds, sticky clothes labels in the carpet and an alarm that bleeped four times a hour from a telecom box in one of the bedrooms. Sky city did send cleaners and maintenance around. However, this apartment was on the fifth floor, the views were not comparable with what I had booked. There is a light railway outside with trains going past ever few minutes in the morning.
Sky City say that 30 Regent Street is a "Liberty View" property but it lacks many of the features advertised in the "Liberty View" ( at 9 Regent Street) advertised on their website is floor to ceiling windows, eating establishments in the building etc.
When you make a booking with Sky City I would advise getting a full address for the apartment you are booking. flat number and street name and number. Higher floors will be quieter. Also take screen shots of the apartment as advertised on the website so you can re-assure yourself that you are getting what you booked. Also if they then try to swop you , then you have evidence of the standard you paid for.
I have written a complaint on the Better Business Bureau website of NJ state and reviews on this and other websites to alert people to the apartment switch this company pulled on me. I have been offered a fifty percent refund by Marcia the Sky City operations director which I am currently waiting to see if they honour.
