- Terrible #168314
BE SMART – DO NOT RENT APARTMENT HERE! Get mortgage or rent in Manhattan if you able to pay over $2,000 for 1 bedroom. I and my wife were so impressed with building interior and apartment amenities and repairmen that we completely forgot to research it prior to moving in. However, everything showed up right after we had moved into this terrible building.
First of all, there are terrible neighbors. Do not expect your neighbors to be the same working class people as you are who pays for such high rent out of their own income and who was able to pass credit and background check. Most of my neighbors are immigrants who do not speak English, do not work and have multiple children. How do I know? My neighbors downstairs blasting music and have parties at nights, my neighbors across one wall awake whole night long and have loud conversations in foreign language, my another neighbors smoking weed just right on the balcony and all this smell going into my apartment though open windows. You can seу lots of people between 20 to 50 years old loitering in the hallway in the middle of workday. Why are they not at work?
Second, do not expect security even though security is present here. You can easily access the building at any time by following someone and no questions will be asked. Taking on account that there are over 400 units, there is always someone entering or exiting building often. I cannot order packages to my apartment because they are getting stolen and I even have police report about it! Moreover, there are often some outsiders who drink and smoke on stairways and this smell and noise from them going into your apartment. Security guards usually do not pick up the phone or promise you to solve the issue but do not do anything unless you start to push them.
Third, do not expect quietness into your apartment because there is no noise isolation. I need to turn on air conditioner or fan to fall asleep because I can hear all my neighbors who are awake at nights. I can hear not only music but even conversations, noise of slammed doors, even toilet flushes! Also dogs’ barking into neighbors’ apartment is very annoying. But the most terrible thing happens when your child can hear neighbors having loud sex with dirty words just because bedroom borders with your neighbors’ bedroom.
Forth, do not expect not to share space with someone’s dogs. Dogs are present everywhere even though initially this building was not pet friendly. Expect to be inside elevator with dogs who smells you or bark at you. Moreover, expect to step into dog’s poop or pee not only outside but inside the building, too. Speaking to management has no sense because they say all dogs into the building are service dogs. My neighbor in his 30s has two “service” dogs – German Shepard and French bulldog – probably one dog is not enough.
Fifth, do not expect healthy conditions. Beside pets waste there are cockroaches and history of bedbugs’ infestation. READ YOUR LEASE CAREFULLY BECAUSE THERE IS A PAGE THAT INDICATES WHICH FLOORS WERE INFESTATED. Typically you can see cockroaches next to trash collector or into laundry room.
Sixth, laundry room is typically overcrowded unless you come after 10 PM to do laundry. Do not leave your cloth unattended – they may be stolen. Just read papers into laundry about people asking to bring their cloth back. People from other building come to do their laundry, too. By the way, laundry is pretty costly. 40 minutes cycle costs $1.50 and dryer costs $0.25 per 6 minutes.
In conclusion, just do yourself a favor and do not waste your money on “luxury” apartment like this. Do not make my mistakes.
