Shamco Management

This apartment I rented a few months ago was remodeled, looks good. I pay 1500 a month. What I have now are bedbugs . Tenants told me the building is infested. Hot water takes 15 minutes to get hot. At times no running water. Hallways stink and trash is always piled in front of the building. I paid a fee for this dump.. I make complaints and they give you a number and no one calls you. I am out of this dump. Beware. You can put a hat and lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.

The worse management company I have ever dealt with and i work in the field where I work closely with managements and this company has topped the list for poor management. They only care to collect their rent and nothing about the tenants. their buildings are run down and always have major issues. the supers only work part time and does very little. The building that I lived in was very dirty.
PS there should be a choice for terrible because that is what they are.

I moved into an apartment owned by Shamco in January of 2013. About 3 weeks into my lease, the heat in the entire building went out. The management company was contacted by the super, and he was told that the company would fix the issue by the next day. Asa temporary remedy, the super was told that all tenants would be provided with a space heater. That night, I was provided with a 6-inch heating fan that was not strong enough to heat even a small room. To get any warmth, one would be forced to sit directly next to the fan. The next day passed, and I approached the super as to why the heat was not back on. He informed me that the boiler had been improperly installed and had burned out. The management company had given him an estimate that it would be done by Tuesday (the heat went out on a Thursday). That meant going the entire weekend without working heat. Tuesday came and went, and there was still no heat. I called the company a few times and received no response. Finally, I emailed them with the details of the problem and stated that I would be withholding rent for all days the building was without heat, as the apartment was not habitable during those times. That finally got a response, in which the individual who called me stated that there had been heat in the building the whole time. A quick check with the NYC HPD complaint website confirmed that this was untrue, and other tenants were continuing to complain about a lack of heat. All in all, the building had no heat for 9 days. Nine. Days. In January.
I opted not to pay rent for those days, as I had stated to the company. It is now over a month later, and they have decided to threaten legal action to get there 300-some dollars.
The above is fact- the following is opinion. I believe that this company is trying to take advantage of the poor minorities that primarily inhabit this building. It is highly unreasonable for anyone to be without hear in winter for 9 days.
Oh, and as an aside, they sent the super to collect their 6-inch heater fans from everyone in the building. Real stand-up folks.
I would NEVER recommend this company to anyone.
