My wife and I and our 10-year old son had a wonderful experience in Sear (then still named Bellissimo’s, although under the new management) in January of 2015. Everything was great: the food, the wine, the deserts, the service from the staff and especially from the highly accessible, cultivated, and always-gracious manager, Leo. So, when it came time for my wife’s birthday four days ago, I proposed a trip to Sear to my family, and they leapt at it (even though the trip was 40 minutes away and we live in Piermont, NY, home to Xavier’s and numerous other first class restaurants, and only 10 minutes away from Dimora in Norwood, and Sear in Closter). Again, everything was PERFECT. My wife and I had an order of Escargot (a special that day) and an order of Oysters on the Half Shell (East Coast). Then we shared one of the greatest steamed lobsters we have ever experienced in our lives. For wine, I had the Pinot Noir from the Jargon Vineyard in Napa Valley, CA, and my wife had a New Zealand Cabernet Sauvignon. Both were very satisfying complements to our meals. Our son had the Prime NY Sirloin. This presented the first problem of the evening. We are big sharers in our family, and my wife and I were regularly raiding our son’s steak and he was counter-attacking by scooping up large parts of our lobster, leading to two pointed-but-happy quarrels. Everything was great, really: we were having a wonderful time.
I am not a desert person, but my wife is and ordered the Creme Brulee and our son ordered the Chocolate Mousse. Both were excellent (of course, I was forced to try them both, despite my so-called “diet”).
We will be back!
