I had heard good things about this restaurant with it's ambiance and food, and thought it was a good location for a Yule gathering for me and my co-workers.
I called up the Armory the afternoon of the gathering, letting them know that we were going to arrive around 6:30 - 7pm. I told them that we were going to be somewhere between 10 - 25 people, that we were all coming in at various times due to our work schedules, and that I didn't want to reserve a table because WE WERE ALL GOING TO NEED SEPARATE CHECKS (I wrote that in bold because it's important).
A co-worker and I were there first, around 6:30pm, and we spoke with the hostess, who I had spoken to earlier, and we confirmed that we were an unknown number of people who were going to be coming in and leaving sporadically, and so even though we'd be sitting together, WE WERE ALL GOING TO NEED SEPARATE CHECKS. She told us that wouldn't be a problem.
We were seated at a table and we told the waiter that there were going to be at least 15 of us, but WE WERE ALL GOING TO NEED SEPARATE CHECKS. He nodded and said fine, But, since we wanted to make sure, we mentioned WE WERE ALL GOING TO NEED SEPARATE CHECKS every time each of us ordered.
Some people came in later than others, making us at about 20 people, and so the orders - both for food and drink - were staggered. Also, as it happens with large groups, we switched seats between the tables and ordered drinks where we sat.
We all know where this is going, right?
People start to leave, and ask for their checks and guess what we're given: one check for each table.
Seriously?
And the waiter basically tells us too bad, this is how it's done.
What kind of customer service is that? The rude arrogance and power trip mentality of the waiter was unbelievable, as well as him being unable to understand us due to a sudden language barrier. And then came the fun of him telling us that we couldn't pay by card unless we all paid at the same time. And then he couldn't for some reason redo the checks separately.
What a hassle it was to have to go through this when we had told them many times WE WERE ALL GOING TO NEED SEPARATE CHECKS. They would have gotten a much higher rating if we weren't treated so very badly. How sad that they are quite all right with losing so many guests - as I will never use their place again for a work party - just for a minor power trip on the waiter's part.
