I've been going to this restaurant for a number of years, before it was known as Sakaya, and it has always been excellent. My last visit there was very suspect. I stopped in for lunch a few days ago, and the meal tasted fine. A few hours later, my stomach was tied in knots -- couldn't move. Was bed ridden for the rest of the night, and suffered diarrhea, orange/yellowish, watery stools (sorry for the graphic detail, but you will see why in a second). I highly suspect they served me escolar, a cheap fish a lot of sushi and fish restaurants serve in place of other more expensive white fish, like white tuna and yellow tail. Of course, they don't tell you this, and sell the fish to you as "white tuna" or "yellow tail". The symptoms were so strange and unusual I read up on it, and I had all the symptoms of being fed escolar. Escolar is a deep sea predatory fish with flesh consisting of a waxy type of protein that humans cannot digest. Although it's not fatal, escolar protein will probably confine you to bed for a few hours, if not days, with intense digestive discomfort. If you go to a sushi place, even a "higher end" place like this one, just beware that the white fish you are being served may not be the real thing, and that you may be setting yourself up for a long night in the bathroom. To be safer, just stick with the salmon or the red tuna. I will certainly never eat at this place again after this miserable experience.

Great sushi. Good ambiance. Sea food is fresh and properly prepared. Dishes tastes like ones I have in Japan.

The best sushi ever! I have been going there for 10 years 2 times a week. Amazing fresh food and many varieties. LARGE PORTIONS with reasonable prices. I am a very picky eater but I have not ordered anything from there I didn't like!
