Reviews to Saint Agnes Roman Catholic Church
The Church (1913) is beautiful and worth a visit. The tower is quite tall and the rose stained glass window is one of the largest in the country. It is not as big as the one in the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, but is worth seeing. I thought the most redeeming feature is the huge stained glass windows depicting the life of St. Agnes. It is an unusual subject matter to be dealt with in so many large windows. There are 8 windows dedicated to the life of St Agnes. The transepts have windows depicting the birth and resurrection of Christ. Clerestory windows above the transepts depict 8 Doctors of the Church and 8 Apostles. Saints are above the images of St. Agnes. That is a lot of windows. The windows are by the studio of Franz Xavier Zettler of the Royal Bavarian Art Institute in Munich, Germany. The church is large. I really enjoyed seeing this church and in particular the huge stained glass windows. Architect : Thomas Francis Houghton who also designed the altar. McBride Studios built the altar, statuary, shrines and communion rails. The painted panels above and behind the reredos are by the Rambusch Decorating Co.
