Extremely unhappy with my two years in the biology PhD program at Rutgers Newark. Instructors were not concerned about student welfare whatsoever and treated graduate students like children instead of peers. Rutgers New Brunswick was an entirely different experience; strongly encourage students interested in pursuing higher education in biology to apply there instead of Newark.

Proud to be part of the most diverse campus in the NATION!! It literally feels like you are part of an amazing family. Very kind people. The best part is, no buses between classes and everything is walking distance right in the middle of the city. It is right next to NYC great for internships and careers.i seriously have had the best experience at Rutgers Newark.

Rutgers Newark is by far one of the better schools in the state. It is mostly a commuter school right in a good part of Newark. It operates out of two campuses: the medical school and undergrad/grad campus. There are a lot of good places to eat and Rutgers is one of the cheaper schools out there for tuition. It is the state university and will be celebrating it's 250th anniversary next year. Rutgers itself is only like another school in NJ: Princeton University. The Newark campus is better than the others for criminal justice, public service and business. A common misconception is this campus having the most crime but it's in fact the main flagship campus in New Brunswick that has a ton more crime for Rutgers students. People think Newark is worse because it's a violent, crime plagued but New Brunswick is much worse because of the area and the amount of students: 16,000 to over 40,000. Despite what the police chief and director of Newark claim, the city itself is not safe and you won't want to wonder off campus too far. The biggest problem on this campus is classes fill up quickly and parking itself is the absolute worst. There are over ten thousand that commute but there is not enough parking decks/lots. In fact, the school foolishly has ceased in providing any more parking and plans on building another dorm when the issue is parking. You will have to get here early for spots in the morning otherwise you'll be stuck not going to class, paying for private parking, parking far away. One thing you might not want to do is transfer to one of the other campuses among Camden, Newark or New Brunswick because if you do you'll lose credit even though it's the same damn school.
