Who would have known that a simple tram ride would have been such an enjoyable experience. I felt like a tourist. I snapped tons of pics. The view was so gorgeous. Going towards the Island I rode in the front. Going toward city the view from the back is best.
The fair is the $2.50. Same as NYC subway & train. The turnstiles take metrocards only. You can also use your unlimited metrocards, therefore price is included.
The tram itself was bigger than what I expected. Its very spacious and you dont feel claustophobic unless you go on it during rush hour. The ride was smooth as well so no worries about it shaking.
Not a bad idea as date pit stop!

Not just for residents or asylums, Roosevelt Island is a great place for recreation. There are lots of fields where people play soccer and other contact sports. Take the tram, walk around, check out the new Roosevelt memorial, and catch the sunset. They even have movies during the Summertime. Perfect for bike rides too.

Riding the tram to cross from Roosevelt Island to Manhattan over the East river is a nice experience. The thing that I like is that it has a nice view. When you are in the middle there is some thing that it looks like you are going to hit it. sometimes it shakes when it is really cold.

The MTA metro card can be used on the tram to Roosevelt Island. While taking the tram across East river, the eastside skyline of Manhattan is in your eyes. On the Island you can take a walk to south point park or walk north to the beacon. During the spring time, the cherry blossom on the river bank make the whole road pink which is really gorgeous!!

I have lived on RI for over a year and always take advantage of any opportunity to ride the tram. The views of the east river, midtown, and roosevelt island are stunning. I would personally ride the tram over the empire state building, especially when the price is $2.50 vs. $50 or whatever. Highly recommended
