Good gym. Good price (if you found yourself a special). Clean and not too crowded.

I've been a member of The Rock for about 5 years now. The gym and locker room are always kept clean. There is plenty of equipment and I've never had an issue not getting a machine. The classes are great. Instructors Eric, Dorothy, and Helen are awesome. I have worked with personal trainer Navin and he was excellent. I would definitely recommend.

Equipment:
The gym it self is not bad,
3 squat racks/power lifting platforms,
1 power rack( really bad quality),
3 flat and incline bench press (not great, but they are solid)
1 decline bench press
a bunch of machines that are all pretty good, and also some specialty stuff like the a log press
Overall i would say the equipment is like a 4
Gym Culture:
This isnt a power lifting gym, nor a cross-fit gym, nor a boxing gym, nor Olympic lifting gym, its not even a big global gym. But it tries to be all of it, and fails at all fronts.
The gym is poorly managed, and it shows in the culture. The dumbbells are always miss places, very few people know what their doing, the music sucks, and it has a bunch of random areas that are completely useless. For example they have a rock-climbing wall and a boxing studio. Neither of which are well equipped and are a waste of space. They only serve to draw people into buying a member ship, but if your actually serious about rock-climbing you'll go to "the cliff" and if your into boxing youll go to any number of boxing oriented gyms in NYC.
Staff:
The management have very few people skills and are very off putting. The gym trainers seem knowledgeable but again they have bad people skills are are kind of rude.
I have the biggest problem with the cleaning staff as they have **no regard for your safety!!**
The gym has a thick rubber floor mat coating the entire gym. This is great, however when these mats get wet, they absorb the water, become a little bit spongy and lose all grip.
The problem is that the cleaning staff will mop the floor and make the entire area unusable (for me as a powerlifter). Im not complaining that they mop the floor, i am complaining that they mop the floor WHILE im in the middle of my workout.
This happened on more then a few occasions, I would be bench press/power rack resting between sets and the janitor would soak the area in water. I told him that this is unsafe, and asked if use less water, dry the area after words or even just mop when the gym is less crowded (they do it at about 8 - 9 pm). But they he didnt care and continued to do the same thing.
The management is very unresponsive to emails.

Almost never packed. No meatheads. Customers and employees all seem like good people. Equipment is high quality with a good variety. 24/7 access (except for Sat and Sun). Boxing room with a ring and 3 bags, mits, pads, etc.
Only one location, but I live one stop away (8-10 minute walk). Not exactly a steal when you're talking prices but it could be a lot worse. Price is only worth it if you live in the area and go at least 4 times a week.
