... mal mal mal. .... ..

This is the kind of little latino homestyle cooking place that I loved going to when I worked in the Bronx. Cheap lunch special ($6), little storefront, a little fancier inside than most, and good Ecuadorian food. I was a little early for a meeting in Jersey City and I hadn't eaten yet, so I decided to pop in for the lunch special. The random Italian stuff on the menu was weird, but the service was good. Also, one big plus is that this place is family run, and the owner/father is the one who was cooking the food. The special came with a main and a choice of soup. That might not sound like a big deal for a lunch special, but the portions were pretty good. I had chicken soup, which was homemade and a big portion with pieces of chicken on the bone. Better than that was the filet of beef I had with rice and beans. There could've been a bit more of it relative to the rice/beans, and it was a little oily, but it was decent quality meat. Especially great was the spicy sauce they put on the side, which had a nice amount of chili oil in it and went perfectly with the beef. This wasn't anything gourmet, just solid latino soul food. Next time I'm in the area, I definitely will be checking out the full menu, as there were some interesting dishes on it.
