Building is OK. With not much time to look at places, it was a safe bet when moving from out of town, but they hit you HARD on contract renewals.
Expensive considering you are NOT actually in Manhattan proper. For the same price (or maybe even less) you can be in one of the high rises on the other side of the tram, one of which has a pool!!
Make sure you add a monthly [unreliable] subway pass per person into your rent cost. It can be quite difficult to convince a taxi to drive you back to Roosevelt Island. The tram and subway are always down in one direction or another, so it's definitely annoying when you have to ride the F into Queens for 10 minutes just to take it back towards Manhattan on another line.
The island's Duane Reed closes at 8pm, so if you need anything, get ready to take the tram and hike up 2nd ave to the 24 hr Duane Reed.
