with regards to antibiotics for a chronic ongoing bladder infection that any dr there should be well versed in handling as I was dr freedmans case for near six years: just an update: dr freedman refused to fill medicine for Sydney today. I have no idea why , as many times in the past ( many many times) , covering Drs have prescribed and filled the medicine, in fact , dr freedman was Sydney's vet for about six years! perhaps his feelings are hurt in some way. nevertheless this was at my dogs expense today. she and I waited all day for medicine only to be told at close to five that nothing was there for her. as the credit card is only on file at 79th, Sydney, because of dr freedman, will have to wait now until Monday. if you could please when you get in to the office and when you get a chance please fax a scrip to the 79 th street office for Monday.
I really appreciate the efforts you made today * on your day off, no less* to help Sydney today. like I said it has always been a group effort at the hospital when it comes to writing time sensitive scrips and filling them. and it's too bad that dr freedman, one rotten egg has to spoil the batch and Sydney now will suffer until Monday I always thought it is supposed to be an animal hospital after all and I guess my patronage to dr freedman fir six years meant nothing as far as service today
thank you for trying anyway
hopefully riverside vet can fix their problems
sincerely

I've been going to Riverside Vets since the early 90's when no other vet or clinic would treat my cat Belle's acute asthma with anything other than steroids for her entire life. I found Dr. Raclyn at Riverside Vets and rushed her to him. He gave her one shot to help her breathe, had me change her diet and take supplements and she never had a recurrence of asthma. I never looked back. The vets and the staff took amazing care of my sweet Belle (who suffered from a variety of ailments) and saved her life a few times along the way. They were remarkably supportive, helpful and kind when I had to say good-bye to her. When it was time for me to adopt another cat, the staff at Riverside Vets introduced me to a VERY shy and sweet cat who had been rescued and brought to them months earlier - and I'm happy to say Vera went home with me that day and is coming out of her shell more and more each day - and Riverside Vets is taking great care of her as well. I love the vets, staff and quality of care so much at Riverside Vets that I schlep 13 blocks to get there when an amazing animal hospital is literally around the corner from my residence. You'll be happy you brought your animal to the great group at Riverside Vets on W. 79th!

Actually, the New York Post got it right. They may not have identified the correct vet in their article where a horrible incident happened, but the Riverside Group in the W. 70s is just as negligible. I took my cat there after he collapsed a few years ago (my first visit), and was told he couldn't even be seen until I paid nearly $500 up front. While I was in the waiting room coming up with the $500, and my cat was suffering, I was then told the amount needed to even see a vet was raised to $750 and then again to nearly $1000. After tests and exams by an extremely cold vet, the diagnosis was incorrect. I was told there was an infection and gave them more money for medicines and food. A week later, my cat collapsed again and I took him to the Animal Medical Center, who diagnosed him correctly with cancer. The Animal Medical Center was kind, correct, understanding, and saw me through, communicating with emails for the next 2 1/2 years as I took my cat to a homeopathic vet and he lived happily, against all odds.
The fact that Riverside additionally sent emails to its clients asking for reviews in the manner they did shows their desperation and lack of dignity. Their main reason for this, they stated, was so they could get new clients. That shows where their interests lie.
Please, if your pet is in trouble, take him or her to the Animal Medical Center, or for regular visits, to reputable vets like the Gramercy Medical Group (Dr. Jay Krulwich) or to a homeopathic vet like Dr. Jill Elliot.

This is where ANY animal should go. They are the best and most careing staff in the city, I am sure. I have had at one time or another 8 cats and all have been treated and cared for by everyone as if the cat was their own.
You are told what the problems are and truly made to understand what is involved. Our Vet there thruly makes you feel that he loves the cat and is truly concerned with any problems the cat has. Then the rest of the staff follow up in the same way.. Costly, yes. But all Vets cost. The difference is you are getting the care and services that you pay for and then some.
If you need a VET regardless of where you live in the city, this is the place to go.

I was looking for a vet on the Upper West Side and tried getting an idea of who I should consider and who to avoid. But the bottom line is that every clinic has bad and good reviews, and I'm really beginning to think that it's all just BS. So I started visiting the different clinics (walking the UWS is pretty easy, since I'm always walking around anyway), and I finally chose Riverside Vet Group after sitting in their waiting room and watching the staff, and the doctors, and talking to some clients. My impression was that the staff went out of their way to make everyone feel comfortable and leave with all the information they needed. The doctors were friendly, and made sure the clients understood everything (they were usually in the waiting room saying goodbye and asking if there were any questions). The place was spotless, coffee in the waiting room (thank god) and the clients I spoke to raved about the place.
I finally did take my dog to see them. And I too, was very happy. Never a hard sell about anything. Good explanations. I can't really tell you if they're the best vets in the area, cause after all, what do I know about medicine? But for my minor problem, they were right on the money, and the cost was reasonable. That's all I really expect. I'm happy with them, and plan on continuing going.
