You get what you pay for. This place is dirt cheap (I pay $5 per entry), and the weights are a little rusty, the cables are held together by duct tape and there are huge men everywhere yelling at each other, but you can get it done. Two squat racks, paper cups cost $0.50.

No nonsense, no frills, and dirt cheap, this place is awesome. Plenty of equipment, rarely have to wait.
Can be intimidating, especially for females, but you can get a real workout in here.

Okay. Lets be real. Richie's is a TOTAL DIRT GYM! and that ladies and gents is exactly what we all need! I would rather go here and use the weights/machines then pay 3x the price for the same thing (just cleaner) at another high-end gym.
The staff is sub-par, with the exception of the two gents who work mornings(they're great). The younger staff will literately text. look up at you. take another 15-20 seconds. then look up from the phone to ask "what do you need." in a very non-helpful manner. But, i have also had pleasant experiences with staff. so I'm still keeping 5 stars.
The price is DUCKING amazing! its pennies a day to be a member of a local gym. Where else will find that? no where...that's right... so stop complaining about it being dirty. its a gym...not a health club with juices, bike classes, hipster moms in 100$ leggings, and all that bull. it is meant to do a lifting regiment and move on with your day feeling good with the swole. ACCEPT THE SWOLE!
The biggest downside is that there are two dedicated squat racks, and 1 multi-use squat rack. the gym has dedicated too much room to barely used machines (lots of leg press machines that aren't used). Instead, they should add a few more a squat racks and another rack of free weights (86 the smith machines, they're not good...or in functioning order).
Love and hate the clientele! I myself am 160 and fit. But, being around huge guys throwing racks of plates makes me feel i have so much room to improve (which is great)4. The biggest downside is that a lot of the whey-heads in this place scream and throw weights..."c'mon man, you're not cool. share the space. keep the peace." I don't like people smashing weights (breaking my ears) and making everyone in the gym turn to see you. i could yell and say "LOOK AT ME*smash*" and people would think the same thing "look at that turd"
All and all. richies is a dirty clap-trap gym. But, It is perfect for its price point and clientele. i'm a skinny little whitey, and I love coming here. I have put on 15 pounds of muscle in the past 8 months, and feel more fit then when i was 18. all i need now is a richie's hoodie...WHY ARE THEY SO EXCLUSIVE!?
If you're a bushwick local with some spare dollars in hard, come on down to the cheapest and best gym in town. come to Richie's.
