It's tiny, there is always too many people in the free weights section at any reasonable hour of the day. When something breaks, specifically sanitary items like toilets or hand towel dispenser...it takes them weeks to repair. The variety of strength machines was recently reduced drastically because they made room for some stupid gigantic crossfit cage which no one barely uses. There is no steam room, no tanning or decent classes here. If all you care about is cardio or basic classic bodybuilding strength training then this place is for you!

Buyer BEWARE!!! In August 2014 my wife signed my daughter up for the year. My daughter was busy with high school and work so she couldn't find time to go and quit in March. We were told it was a 1 year contract. We honored the contract and paid until August and then they add a Maintenance fee on the last payment in August... (When I call about the payment being bigger I get "It's in the contract...") Buyer BEWARE!!!

How is the movie room useless? That seems like an opinion not a fact. My friends and I go in there every night- you get to knock out an hour of cardio while watching a fairly new movie. Some people enjoy working out in peace in comparison to a loud, bright, open room. I've never had an issue with it being too crowded to get on any equipment. I was a member at WOW in Middletown for about 5 years and that was a nightmare- hidden fees, too crowded to find an elliptical, not enough weight machines, ect. I've actually been very pleased with the quality of this gym. The staff is friendly for the most part and didn't give me a hard time when my card was stolen- they let me workout until I could get to my "home store" to pay off my balance. The ONLY complaint I have is that there are not enough group classes. Infact the gym is not big enough for a work out room which is a disappointment. If you are looking for a gym with a class schedule- this is not the gym for you. But for some cheap dues with no hidden fees, this is the perfect match !

Not sure how people can complain about the lack of machines, there's plenty of machines, and lots of free weights. It's a little crowded back where the free weights are, but it's certainly doable back there. I like the mix of people in the place, and you don't seem to have small packs of people hanging out. I've found the staff to be cordial.
Although they do list it as 24 hours, they do have summer hours for sat/sun, which I understand since there would be like 3 people in there on a sunday after 7pm. I've never found it too crowded, and I've been getting there on weekdays between 5-7; middletown has a lot of people in it now, and the rest of the gyms in the area aren't competitive price wise.

I've been to this gym one time and loved it. I'm mad I don't live closer because its much nicer than a lot of other Retro's. People in other reviews are complaining? Try going to other Retro fitness gyms and you'll learn to appreciate the Middletown one. Seriously, you pay $20 and expect a big state of the art gym? Go to hell with your stupid $20 and go sign up at a $60+ / month gym. Oh u don't want to because you're cheap? Then shut up . You get what you pay for and a lot of other Retro customers get less bang for their buck than you whiny middletown people do
