Took my 7 yea old shih tzu for anal gland flushing 11/19 and til this day my dog has yet to fully heal. They also did a dental cleaning and took out his bottom 4 teeth without notice. My dog developed an infection two days after flushing surgery. I brought him back in atleast 4 more times to see what's wrong with him and they keep saying everything is fine and normal. I ended up taking my dog to another vet. I will never return to this place and I recommend nobody goes there. I feel as if dr. Shukla was very dishonest with his work and him and his staff cover up their errors. I personally feel they did something wrong when they did the flushing but they will never admit it. When I confronted the dr he started to cry and saying that he loves animals etc and would never hurt any. I call bullshit!! Nothing but money stealing no genuine animal love there to them it's a business they just care about making money and about the pet.

Very poor flea treatment for our 6-year-old Shih-Tzu:
- sold us bad anti-flea medication ("Revolution") prior to flea infection
- we had to direct them on where to find the fleas later
- flea collar ineffectual (thrown out promptly by subsequent vet; infectious rash developed)
Compared to Theresa Wong's amazingly sad and disturbing experience below (she brought her dog in for a tooth cleaning, the dog later died!), our family's story is relatively tame.
We've been taking our Shih-Tzu to Rahway Animal Hospital for roughly a year. At first we were pleased with their service; the doctors seemed amiable, professional, and the prices were affordable. The doctors there insisted we use "Revolution" as an anti-flea medication, saying it was the best of that market. After using this product for roughly a year we discovered that our Shih-Tzu had picked up a nasty flea infection. Upon returning to the vet they examined her and claimed nothing was wrong - that is, until we had to point out to them that she had fleas. They reassured us everything would be fine, sold us flea bombs for the house, and gave our Shih-Tzu a flea collar. Only the flea bombs would work.
When our dog didn't show signs of improvement we took her to another vet, in Linden, about a week or so later. The Linden vet promptly removed the flea collar and threw it away, pointing out to us that it was ineffectual. Our dog's skin had broken out into an allergic hot-spot beneath where the collar was once placed. Fleas still crawled on her skin. We were furious.
The Linden vet prescribed the proper medication and treatment. Now, roughly a month or so after our last visit to Rahway Animal Hospital, our Shih-Tzu seems to be doing fine. The rash is gone. There's some scratching but we can't find fleas anywhere.

I brought my Italian Greyhound to Dr. Shukla for a routine teeth cleaning, only to receive a call that my beloved dog was dead. When my husband and I arrived there (I was 3 months pregnant at the time), we were shown our dog hooked up to a bunch of wires and tubes on the operating table. When we asked what had happened, we were told he had been brought to the recuperating room, where he had woken up, and then died. This was the first coverup of what happened. He wouldn't have been hooked up to anything had he died in the recuperating room. When I asked for a bloodtest to see why he had died, I was given him in a cardboard box and told to go to the Garden State Veterinarians in Tinton Falls and they could do it there. It struck me as odd that the vet couldn't do it, but we were in shock, so we went. We saw a very nice vet in Tinton Falls who told us that unfortunately, his bloodwork would have had to be done at the Rahway Vets, and that his blood was no longer viable since he had been dead for a few hours. When I confronted Dr Shukla, he never once said I'm sorry for your loss, never even seemed to care. He still billed us for the dental work done- since it was completed before my 7 year old dog died. My parents used this vet for years, so once I had a dog, I went there too- I never in my life imagined that I would lose my pups this way. I would NOT recommend this vet to anyone, EVER. Too much negligence happened that day.

Dr. Shukla has a "God-like" presence with his patients. Our dog has been visiting for almost 15 years. The service has always been consistent and professional. The staff is always friendly, polite, and compassionate. Rahway Animal Hospital is the best in the tri-state area with comfortable pricing. Highly recommended to anyone that truly cares for their pet/animal! :)
