I lived in Bayside for 30 years and had used the Auburndale Library to help my 3 children's academic grew up. The library management is fantastic, especially the latest technological improvement, can eliminate a lot of unnecessary manpower and facilitate check out time. However, I believed some employees in there should be educated about their customer relationship.
I got retired lately and try to use the library, to spend some leisure time, which for over ten years I had not used.
Last Friday I bowered some videos disks and tried to return them on Tuesday. After I passed them through the feeding channel. One oriental employee rush out and condemn me for ruining the disk container. Before I can defend myself another oriental lady rush out to support her coworker, without listening to my explanation. She told me that I have to pay for the damage and talked to the manager. The time I borrowed those disks, they were enclosed in a plastic sealed envelope, I had never have any chance to inspect for any defect of the merchandise until I use it.
After I received the items returned receipt, I ask the manager how much I have to pay for the damage? she smile and asked me if I had caused the damage? I told her I did not, she smiled and told me I do not need to pay for the damage not caused by me.
I am oriental myself, but I do feel ashamed for the treatment I received by people of my own nationality. Sometime, patient for listening and examination the situation carefully can eliminate a lot of unnecessary misunderstanding. Without the understanding help of the manager I would lost confidence for the library system. Also library items belong to everyone, we should not abuse them. Thank you again.
