Not giving it five stars because it's the biggest and best botanical garden in the city, but because I support any effort in Queens to bring some countryside wisdom into the bowels of urban asphalt and concrete. Yes, it's a tranquil and beautiful place and they have a nice, new parking lot. But for me, as a local, it's really about what it represents. Nature is a key part of any future city plan and we need places like this to be thought leaders and to inspire us. Grab the kids, grab the girlfriend, grab grandma, whatever. Just go there. Do it!

A couple of weeks ago I spent some time in the perennial borders on a sunny afternoon. A riot of flowering plants, but what impressed me most of all was the numbers of insects and butterflies buzzing around.... and this in the middle of a city....! Just excellent, that this is a garden for A L L beings. :)

extremely small. children's garden closed to public... nothing educational or intetactive for children. yes it is quiet but not worth paying even the $4. no staff to answer questions or do tours. .. parks are free
