I purchased the $17 oil change deal via Amazon Local and noted that the fine print states that 1) an appointment is required and 2) an additional charge would apply for synthetic oil. Upon making the appointment I spoke with the manager, informed him that I was redeeming the Amazon deal, and inquired as to what the adjusted discounted price would be for the synthetic oil change. He stated "$44.95" and I scheduled my appointment for the following day. (Note I have used this location one time before for an oil change and redeemed a Quality Auto discount coupon that arrived in the mail without issue).
Upon arriving for my oil change the next day I presented my Amazon voucher. The manager informed me that "the voucher is not valid at this location of Quality Auto." I pointed out that the Belleville site is listed as a participating location, and he told me that "he couldn't do anything about that as the instructions came from corporate." The manager was friendly and had a personable nature and offered to "try to enter the redemption code into the computer to see if it would take it." He keyed in the redemption code, looked me in the eye, and said "no, the system did not take it. But since you are a returning customer, I will honor the discount and only charge you $44.95 for the oil change - the real cost of an synthetic oil change is $69.95." After a bit of discussion, I agreed as I was in a hurry. I also reminded him that since he offered to honor the "invalid" Amazon deal - technically I should have been charged $44.95 less the $17 I had already paid for the oil change via the voucher.
After the oil change was completed, he presented me the receipt to authorize the charge amount. I noted that the total charge amount was $52.01, and he indicated that it was due to sales tax. After I signed the charge authorization, only then does he present me with the full breakout of the cost of the oil change. He also took the "invalid voucher" from me. I was a little miffed but was in a hurry and reasoned that I could always try to redeem the Amazon local deal at another Quality Auto location. I thanked the manager and left.
Imagine my surprise when I checked the status of the voucher the next morning and saw that it was marked as being redeemed! So with that being the case - the full price of my "discounted" oil change turned out to be $52.01 PLUS the $17 redeemed - $69.01 in total! Needless to say I was quite incensed. Thankfully the wonderful customer service representatives at Amazon offered me a full refund for the Amazon local deal.
All I can say is this - if the manager of the Belleville location will look you in the eye and scam you over something as simple as an oil change, imagine the rip offs that are likely to occur were you to have that site do any real work on your vehicle. It's a shame but obviously I will not return to this location as a customer moving forward. Use this location at your own risk.
