A few months ago, in a casual conversation with Ken, I mentioned that I go for Reflexology appointments every other month. It was then that Ken suggested I try Qigong; he thought I would really appreciate the healing aspects of a session. I booked my first appointment Sunday, April 13, 2014.
It was a beautiful day, warm with plenty of sunshine and I excitedly took the train out to Brooklyn, anxious to see what Qigong was all about. Ken has a lovely apartment and, although I was relaxed when I arrived, the room where the session takes place immediately made me even more so. The dark blue walls create this sense of calm and the billowing mist from the silent humidifier looked very ethereal. I immediately felt at ease and centered even before we began.
Before the session started, Ken asked if I was feeling any discomfort. I let him know that my left shoulder was feeling a bit overworked (from too much heavy overhead pressing at the gym) and he said to let him know if I felt any discomfort during the hour. I closed my eyes and the session began.
It was amazing! There were moments that were very similar to Reflexology (pressure points in the toes and fingers) which I find so relaxing that I did nod off for a brief moment there. And when Ken placed his finger on my forehead (I assumed to open up the head chakra), I was delighted to see flashes of color behind my eyelids for a few seconds! Naturally, the hour flew by and I sat up with a wonderful sense of renewed energy, feeling like I was ready to “take on the world.” Ken said that he did not feel “heat” from my internal organs and indicated that is a good, healthy sign -- which is always nice to hear. My shoulder did not hurt at all during the session; in fact, Sunday night was the first night that I did not sleep with a heating pad wrapped around it!
I was still feeling the sense of renewed energy Monday morning and had a fantastic workout at the gym (shoulder is still not giving me any grief)! With the positive effects from just one session, I know that I will be incorporating Qigong work with Ken on a regular basis.
