Finally! After 6 years of living in Park Slope I had the opportunity to visit this zoo for free during the Summer (thanks to having a NYC ID, normally $8 for adults). As soon as I walked in (Children's Corner Entrance), I immediately fell in love with the metal work. The first few were a bit tricky to identify, but as soon as you get it you'll be hooked. The discovery trail is simply the best and I felt like a complete kid again as I managed to squeeze myself into a turtle shell at 200lb and crawled my way into a hole to hang with fellow Prarie Dogs.
Favorite animal was the Red Panda for sure - afterall, it's like their calling card throughout their NYC advertisements. River Otter doing laps was also pretty cute.
After discovery trail, the zoo becomes less interesting. Aside from the Baboon exhibit, the other spaces seem simply smaller, especially the aviary as it felt crowded with one or two (types) too many birds. The barn isn't too impressive if you're an adult - the fake cow milking didn't feel very genuine afterall.
It is a small zoo, but it's not too crowded with people and the sea lion feeding is a real treat. You can tell from the animal caretakers that they take care of the animals as best they could in assuring their health and happiness.
