Dear Respiratory Therapy Professional License Board
Please note the following:
This letter is a complaint about Dennis L. Hammond, a respiratory therapist
from Jamaica, New York (license no. 52-007302). This person needs to be
investigated because of several clinical issues which place patients
in harm's way. These concerns have been reported by Jacobi Hospital
Nurses and an Adminsitrator on Duty but no action taken and the safety
concerns contiune.
1. Dennis Hammond collects money and issues BCLS cards to nurses and
respiratory therapists without actually providing the training required.
This is a breach in the professional licensure law and puts the patients at
risk because the personnel who are supposed to save lives are not being
trained properly.
2. Dennis Hammond works at Promenade Nursing Home at 140 Beach 144th
St., Far Rockaway,New York, 11694 and Jacobi Medical Center, Bronx,
NY. He goes from one job to the next ROUTINELY WORKING 20- 24 hours
straight. He works
nights at Jacobi Medical Center and goes straight to Promenade Nursing
Home. It is a common practice that when two RTs are on duty at this nursing
home he leaves the area and lets the other therapist cover for 5-6
hours while he sleeps. The second RT only responds to stat calls and
then Dennis Hammond falseifies the medical records as if he was
actuall working, providing direct patient care, assessing the patients
that he is responsible for, etc.. This practice is
dangerous and places patients at risk of clinical harm. PATIENTS at
Promenade and Jacobi are being placed at risk and not receiving the
ordered and appropriate care due to the action or inaction of Dennis
Hammond.
3. Documentation of respiratory care procedures are being falsified by
Dennis Hammond when he works at Jacobi Medical Center, he takes long breaks
and often goes to sleep for long hours and even leaves the hosp. He
documents that he gives treatments to patients when in fact he didn’t
even check the patients that he is responsible for. Complaints have
been made regarding his lack of or slow response to stat calls to the
ICUs and Jacobi hospital but nothing happens. The unsafe practices
continue.
Please follow-up before there is a really bad outcome for our
patients. Today DENNIS HAMMOND can apply to another organization
(hospital, nursing home) and cause even greater patient harm!
Investigate and take the appropriate actions to prevent patient harm!
