Powerhouse Gym Bayside

Horrible gym if you can even call it that. It looks more like a garbage dump in my opinion. Where should we start with this place? I was attending this gym for a pretty long time but in the past year I was told that there was a switch in management. All of a sudden the gym has fallen apart.
Lets start with management or lack of. The shorter man who says he is a trainer is very rude and so is the staff. No help what so ever and will harass you if they have a problem Also not helpful when it comes to asking questions. They won't even admit that they work at this "establishment" and i found out the reason by one of the workers that they get paid off the books so they cannot tell you they work at the gym. The employees just "help out". Also when i decided to bring in my girlfriend as a guest the so called trainer was hitting on my girlfriend! And I was told that his wife was in the gym at this moment as well. Nice costumer service.
Next lets start with the weights. The barbells are bent to such an extreme its actually a danger to use because they roll in your hands. Also the dumbbells are actually falling part and i witnessed them fall apart in someones hands and hit him in the head. The cable machines in the basement of this place have been broken for almost a year as well. They don't fix the weights it seems or they have a "employee" fix it with either tape or glue. The other day actually the leg press broke under its own weight and collapsed on itself with weight on the machine on a gym member. The weights here are extremely dangerous.
Next is cleanliness. Ive have witnessed myself mold growing underneath all the floors lately, under all the rubber matting they put down. Its a health hazard with so much black mold everywhere. The place smells of old socks and mold as well. In the basement there is so much dust its hard to breathe and the smell of strong bleach is disgusting. Also anytime it rains you have water running down the walls in the basement. The bathrooms are always a mess, the garbages are never changed and are always over flowing. I would never attempt to use these showers or the bathrooms in general in fear of catching something.
The facility itself looks run down and falling apart, they cover a massive fan in the back with a garbage bag in the winter to try and keep the heat in instead of fixing it properly. Its always freezing in the winter and scorching hot in the summer in this gym. And lately Ive noticed a bad fly problem as well. A numerous number of dead bugs on the window sills inside the gym. All in all with the other gyms in the areas like Push and Life health fitness, even bell plaza. I don't see why anyone would want to come here. STAY AWAY for your own good.

Need more squat racks. There is wasted space where the day care used to be, that can be a rack. They have 6 preacher curls machines, that's also a waste. They can use that corner with 3 of those for a Deadlift platform. The floors are uneven, even though they re-did the basement a few years back. They have a new owner, great guy, just clueless about certain things. There is even a shortage of pins for all the weight stacks in the gym. Almost every barbell is bent. I'm fairly certain they aren't sure which bar is which. They need to restock with Texas power bars or purchase power bars for all benches, squat bars for all racks, and a deadlift bar for the aforementioned platform I recommend they purchase. They are also some sort of "silver" certified gym. Can't be hardcore in a place that's approved for my grandma.

What a great gym. All of the employees are so helpful and knowledgeable. They are all willing to answer any questions you have. I would absolutely recommend the gym to everyone.

Honestly I love this gym. It's a really down to earth place to work out with a great staff of people who are always willing to help. My brothers and I have all personally trained with the owner and he's helped all of us reach our very different fitness goals. I've been aiming to lose weight, and he's helped me drop at least 20 lbs so far by helping me switch up my workout every few weeks, and giving great nutrition advice! My brothers are both looking to bulk up, and he has successfully helped both of them gain really great muscle definition we've never seen on them before (one of them never went to the gym and now he's obsessed). The gym has awesome hours, which I appreciate because I work really late sometimes. While some of the equipment could use a little TLC, I know that the employees are all working on it, as they're always looking to improve the gym. They've also added so many classes, which I LOVE. In conclusion - great gym, great atmosphere, family-run, fair price (and cute apparel). I highly suggest Powerhouse!

I absolutely love this gym, I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed.

The rates are very reasonable compared to all of the gyms in the area.

The staff is very friendly and helpful.

The owner is very knowledgeable in all aspects of fitness. He is also very kind and makes you feel like family.

They offer a lot of classes weekly which is great when you want to switch things up from your regular workout routine.

ALSO the gym is very clean. You will always see employees walking around cleaning up each area of the gym.

I highly recommend Powerhouse to everyone ESPECIALLY if you are from the area!!!
