Planet Fitness - Manhattan (Tribeca), NY

Planet fitness is a scummy business. They make it a huge hassle to cancel your membership. The staff at is location are great, but it's a shame they're forced to follow procedures set up in bad faith...

Gym was fine when I was a member. When I moved to Australia though Planet Fitness made it a nightmare to cancel my membership. All the time they continued to bill my account, despite me urging them for 2 months to cancel my membership. I wasn't allowed to cancel it online or over the phone. I had to sent a written hardcopy letter to them from Australia, and they said they never got it. They said they were worried I wasn't the real account holder, despite providing all relevant details.

Can't help but feel this is an underhanded way to squeeze more money out of members...

Good gym for your money. However, BEWARE OF YOUR BELONGINGS. There was 8 Incidents where the lockers were broken into in the SAME DAY!!!! Just protect your valuables and keep them close. Don't leave anything in the lockers!!!! They just took my money and left everything else in the changing room. BEWARE!!

It's a good gym. Only two real problems:

1. The music piped through the speakers? It's like listening to animals being tortured. And it's loud. God, is it loud. Pretty much every single person in the gym is wearing headphones. Did I mention the music is loud? Because it is. Why is music being piped in at all?

2. The men's lockerroom had 35 lockers with locks on them. At the same time, the gym itself had about 15 men in it. Most wearing headphones to block out the really, really loud and awful music. Simple fix? Get a bunch of locks. Barcode them. Make customers check out AND THEN check in a lock each visit. The security lockers in the exercise room are under video monitor so anything valuable can go in there with a from-home lock. If the barcoded lock is "out" for more than 4 hours? Flag the account. Any non-PF locks are simply cut off (Home Depot sells boltcutters) and anything in the locker is confiscated by the staff.

Overall, it's really, a very good gym. The staff is friendly enough (not too cloying, not too surly). The music, which I might not have mentioned, should really be turned down a wee bit, like to zero, because it's really, I mean really, bad. Just garbage.

I gave 5 star... I enrolled last 3 days. I found that the site are very clean!!The staff are nice and very cooperative. Im happy andcontented!!
