My son has been taking lessons with Abby (and occasionally with Les) for three years (he started at age 10). Abby and Les are both accomplished musicians who give lessons out of their warm and welcoming Upper West Side home. They have a kind and casual approach to their teaching (Abby also teaches voice and violin). Abby is patient and enthusiastic and has allowed my son to develop a beautiful talent on the piano that he may not have done in a more traditional, strict setting. It has really worked for him. He loves going to piano lessons - whether with Abby or Les. They have different styles and he has enjoyed the challenges each have given him. They present a lovely recital for their students twice a year and the range of ages and talent is beautiful to see. My six-year old daughter is very excited to be starting her own lessons now with Abby. We feel very lucky to have found Abby and Les.

Les is another person on my musical journey who possesses what to me looks like magical ability to express on the piano whatever he wants. He is a revelation to me - this is the first time that I see someone for whom music theory is not some abstraction but rather the structure guiding every note he plays, who asks not how a music text is constructed but why, and I listen in total awe to his explanations of what goes on under his fingers. He comes from a completely different musical tradition (jazz, blues) which I never understood, and I am intrigued by how classical music looks from that perspective. And, of course, I continue to be greatly impressed with his energy and his enthusiasm. I learned a lot from him in the past year, and I am hoping this is just a beginning of a long road.

Les and Abby are amazing teachers! I have played, on and off, for about 30 years now. After one of my latest "off" times, and a recent move back to NYC...I decided to search for a piano teacher. Well...I got two. The great thing about it was that...all of my life...I was classically trained...but didnt get the theory/jazz/pop part. Well I wanted to continue with the classical music and develop myself with pop and theory. Well that is exactly what I got with getting 2 piano teachers! Abby with the classical part...Les with the Pop/Theory part. While both Abby and Les can do both....this is how it has worked out for me. I have been working with them for the last year or so and the direction and focus they have put me on is nothing short of amazing. I would absolutely recommend taking piano lessons with this lovely couple. I always leave my time with Les and Abby with a deep sense of joy and excitement!
