On a recent visit to New York, I decided to go off the beaten track. One train and two buses later, I found myself in the more laid-back world of City Island, The Bronx. So many things to see and do there, but the highlight had to be the Focal Point Gallery and my long conversation with the artist/photographer Ron Terner. The gallery is a gem, with pieces by Mr. Terner and by the many locals that display their myriad of arts in his store. He described Edward Weston as one of his major inspirations. Indeed, you can see the influence of Weston in his work, but Terner doesn't just imitate those works. He has his own unique style of photography, of distortion, and of re-imaging the materials on his photos. When you speak with him, you can tell that photography is a passion; this love of art shows in every inch of this small gallery.
